What a trip to Aspen costs

A week in Aspen for eight people works out around $14,200 before flights — $496 a night for a place sleeping four, scaled for the group, plus $87 per adult per day for food. From Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle and Phoenix it is cheaper for a family of four to drive than to fly.

A former silver-mining town in the Elk Mountains and one of the best-known ski destinations in the United States. Aspen Mountain rises directly above the town, and three further ski areas including Snowmass lie within about twelve miles; the Maroon Bells stand in the wilderness area beyond them.
